It’s John follows amateur filmmaker Smithy Jones (Victor Hampson), and his rag-tag team of actors who are in the midst of shooting their independent film Woodland Warriors.
A mockumentary done well, presenting a comedic trial of errors behind the scenes.
A mockumentary done well, presenting a comedic trial of errors behind the scenes. We’re given this badly written (and executed) Middle Earth which gives wonderful contrast between these varied actors and the poorly penned characters they must portray. Credit to Hampson (who also wrote and directed the feature), who is a marvellous walking caricature with his thespian wordplay and hilarious alliterations.
Mastering the balance between the two genres, the film executes horror and comedy equally.
A story that would have been entertaining enough just following these hapless individuals but it manages to take us by surprise and elevates the story even further by taking us down an unexpected dark path. Mastering the balance between the two genres, the film executes horror and comedy equally. We are delivered these hilarious characters in a terrifying situation but the scares are treated with seriousness, not blurring the lines between that and the comedic aspects.
