Jacked In Reviews ‘Psycho’ (1960)

On June 16th, 1960, Alfred Hitchcock’s rollercoaster of suspense, Psycho, first premiered in New York. On October 29th, 2021, sixty-one years later, Jacked In’s, Jack saw the horror classic on the big screen for the very first time, at Newcastle upon Tyne’s Tyneside Cinema.

The cinema’s vintage aesthetic, accompanied by the red curtain reclining just above the screen, complemented this classic, black and white picture perfectly. Despite being a movie I’ve seen many times before, when Bernard Herrmann’s score played alongside the – larger than life – opening credits as I was nestled in a velvet theatre seat; all those previous viewings fell by the wayside.

Behind The Scenes of John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’

A story of psychological horror and isolation, featuring scares like you’d never seen before with its ground-breaking practical effects, it’s fair to say, John Carpenter’s renowned cult classic The Thing truly is “The Ultimate in alien terror”.

However, just how much went on behind the camera for this revolutionary masterpiece? From explosions on set to alternate endings being shot and even a crew member being hospitalized, we’ll be looking at what went on behind the scenes for one of the most influential horror movies of all time. Most Memorable Stephen King Adaptations

When it comes to chilling someone to the very core, no one is more synonymous in the world of horror than Stephen King. Since his first book ‘Carrie’ was published in 1973, King has been responsible for entertaining, unsettling and making the hairs on one’s neck stand up for generations. Killer clowns, corrupt prisons, evil cars, rabid dogs, telekinetic, blood-soaked prom queens, there is no limit to which this writer can terrify.

The same can be said for the numerous amounts of King’s books that have made it to the screen (and not just his horror stories either!). However, some movies are more highly regarded or talked about than others. Perhaps a director truly did the novel justice, a writer took it in a new fresh direction or maybe an actor made one of King’s horrifying characters leap right off the page.

Either way, whether it’s a tale of solitude, suspense or pure terror, we’ll be looking at the most memorable movies (that’s right, specifically just movies for this list!) which were either inspired, written or (in some cases) directed, by the master of horror himself.

Behind The Scenes of Sam Raimi’s ‘Army of Darkness’

Travelling back in time, far away from the intimate cabin in the woods setting, we have Army of Darkness AKA Evil Dead III. Now in a much more open (and medieval) world, this film took things to the next level. Giving us deadites by the hundreds, effects that completely trumped its predecessors, not to mention, going completely slapstick with the franchise in the best way possible.

Given the stories from the goings-on behind the camera for the previous two Evil Dead movies, it’s no surprise that this larger production had its own fair share of difficulties as well as interesting tales to tell. From a main cast member losing eleven pounds in one day to studio interference which led to the movie’s ending having to be completely reshot, we’ll be taking a look at behind the scenes for the third instalment to the Evil Dead franchise. . . Groovy.

Behind The Scenes of ‘Back to the Future Part II’

A sequel that a lot of fans argue to be their favourite in the time-travelling trilogy, we have Back to the Future Part II. This film gave us the ‘80s interpretation of the year 2015, a dystopian wasteland and even revisits our favourite moments from the first instalment.

Given the bigger, more complex story to that of its predecessor, there’s obviously going to be some interesting stories of what went on off-camera. From Lawsuits to a family tragedy that caused a prominent cast member to drop out of the sequel, we’ll be looking at just what went on behind the scenes for Back to the Future Part II.

Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads. *Cue the music*

Jacked In Reviews ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021)

With the same premise as the previous movie (and obviously its literary inspiration) The Suicide Squad follows a bunch of villains on a (pretty much, suicidal) mission in order to deduct years from their prison sentences. From the first five minutes, you have hilarious new characters, brutal fatalities and a weasel-human hybrid that eats children, and with that, you’re immediately sold on this movie. As the new squad (and some returning members of this soft reboot) begin jumping into the sea on their latest assignment, the dirt from 2016’s Suicide Squad begins to wash off them and audience members alike.

Behind The Scenes of Sam Raimi’s ‘Evil Dead II’

For a lot of Evil Dead fans, Evil Dead II is perhaps regarded as their favourite instalment to the franchise. Doing something that wasn’t common practice at the time with horror movies, this sequel managed to keep its horror aspect and simultaneously add humour, going from slapstick comedy to something insanely dark and twisted in a matter of seconds. This new style and some other iconic elements would carry on in future movies and even the series, Ash vs Evil Dead, which was released decades later.

However, what was it like working on set for a movie that would change the horror game and go down in cult classic infamy? From a third of the crew being fired over the course of a weekend to one of the cast members almost biting it during a take, we’ll be looking at behind the scene stories from Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead II . . . Groovy.

Jacked In Reviews ‘Akira’ (1988)

Last year Akira was rereleased in 4K IMAX, reminding audiences why this visually stunning, mind-melting, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi anime will always be relevant in the world of cinema. Based on director and writer, Katsuhiro Otomo’s manga series of the same name, Akira was initially released in 1988. This philosophical masterpiece uses the medium of the sci-fi genre and superhuman sub-genre to narrate nuclear war and how incredibly dangerous power can be in the wrong hands. So buckle up as we revisit a feature that changed the game, influential not just for anime, but for movies in general.

11 Reasons Why ‘Superman III’ Is Better Than You Remember

Superman has certainly come a long way ever since Christopher Reeve reignited the character on the big screen back in 1978. To this day he is still highly regarded for his interpretation as the Man of Steel, however, when asked, most people will generally reference the first two movies as being Reeve’s best. Albeit, at the time of release, Superman III (1983) was critically panned compared to its predecessors. And with the bombshell that was Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, that only seemed to strengthen people’s opinions that the last two films in the franchise (discounting Superman Returns) were their least favourite.

However, another revisit to Part III and audiences may find it’s a lot better than they remember. With some of the best effects out of all four movies, more range to Superman (and even Clark Kent) than what had been seen before, and even a solid story arc (swimming in variety) that comes back on itself, we’ll be looking at the reasons why there’s a lot to love about Superman III.

Jacked In Reviews ‘Mortal Kombat’ (2021)

Video Game movies have a proven track record of not hitting the mark and can often be seen as a double-edged sword when it comes to a live-action interpretation. Either you stay true to the game and penalize your wider audience or concentrate on your non-gamer market and do the fans a disservice.

Mortal Kombat is a surprising exception to the fact. It brings something to the table for fans, non-fans and even those troubled individuals that just like to stay up late and watch fatality videos online.

Jacked In Reviews ‘Uncut Gems’ (2019)

Similar to the Safdie brothers previous feature, Good Time, this movie does not take its foot off the pedal from the moment it starts. Not only that, but much like Punch, Drunk, Love this feature reminds us, Adam Sandler is an amazing actor!

Fictional Movie Bands We’d Love To See Live

It’s safe to say movies have incorporated some brilliant artists into their soundtracks over the years, contributing to either, a particular scene or the overall vibe of the movie. However, now and again, they come up with some incarnations of their own, creating some fantastic fictional movie bands that we’d absolutely love to see live.

Whether they’re blowing the roof off (literally) or creating a jam so powerful it brings about world peace, we’ll be looking at the best movie bands that are (albeit) fictional but still deserve some sort of recognition in the Music Hall of fame.

Behind The Scenes of Sam Raimi’s ‘The Evil Dead’

Back in the early 80’s audiences were met with a truly terrifying film that is renowned in the world of horror, Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead.

It shocked fans with its eeriness, not to mention terrifyingly, gruesome effects that had never been seen onscreen before. This movie not only inspired sequels, a “remake”, a series, copycats, even a musical, but has withstood the test of time and is still highly regarded to this day.

However, accomplishing this movie was no easy feat for these (more or less) first-time feature filmmakers. From the crew working off a script that was written on a couple dozen napkins to the filming taking place in a real-life, spooky, abandoned cabin and Sam Raimi actually being brought up on obscenity charges for the picture, we will be taking a look at behind the scenes for one of the biggest cult horror classics of all time.

Vampire Movies You Can Really Sink Your Teeth Into

Vampires have been around for centuries, vampire movies, on the other hand, it wasn’t until the early 1900s that they made their big break onto the silver screen.

And since then, there have been many approaches to these bloodsuckers, including origins, parodies, originality, awesome adaptations, numerous films featuring your main man, Dracula, those cool 80s’ vamps, and who can overlook the just as iconic, slayers they’re pinned against.

Whatever angle they went for, this list is for those vampire movies audiences can really sink their teeth into and what makes each incarnation for these creatures of the night uniquely brilliant.
