Jacked In Recommends ‘Dredd’ (2012)

Photo: Entertainment Film Distributors

Dredd does exactly what an adaptation should and makes the source material its own, whilst staying true to the characters.

A simplistic yet gripping plot shows a helmet-wearing (thank god) Dredd (Karl Urban) with his new rookie, trapped inside a mega block with hundreds of tenants, most of which are drug-taking, gun-wielding criminals, who all work for the boss in the penthouse suite, prostitute turned drug lord, MA-MA (Lena Headey).

The clinger being, the new drug on the street known as SLO-MO allows its user to perceive time at a fraction of its normal speed, which allows the audience to enjoy the carnage, the very same way.

A remarkable gritty performance from Urban as he advances upward, dispatching his own level of justice to those that get in his way, get involved.

Available on Netflix.
