Jacked In Recommends ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ (1999)

Seen through the lens of a camera crew, we (predominantly) follow the life of high schooler/make-up artist for the recently deceased, Amber Atkins (Kirsten Dunst) as she and her peers (Denise Richards, Brittany Murphy, Amy Adams and many more hilariously unique individuals) aspire to be Mount Rose’s next American teen princess.

Seeing as it follows the trials and tribulations within a beauty pageant, Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) perhaps suffered from being released around the same time as Miss Congeniality (2000) and has always had a comparison of sorts. However, rest assured, this mockumentary is far more than a chick-flick, action, comedy.

With the idiosyncrasies of the small American town lifestyle being exaggerated perfectly (or not exaggerated at all in some hilarious cases), all the while our young contestants are dropping like flies in suspicious circumstances, one thing’s for sure, this dark comedy is one of the “most smartest” mockumentaries out there, get involved.
