Jacked In Recommends ‘End of Days’ (1999)

It’s 1999 and the citizens of New York City are getting ready for the turn of the millennium. Unfortunately, there’s an uninvited guest who’s decided to crash their New Year’s Eve soiree. And that party crasher is none other than The Devil (Gabriel Byrne), himself.

After possessing a helpless bystander’s body, Satan now seeks the chosen individual who will bear his child in order to bring about the end of days, a woman by the name of Christine (Robin Tunney). However, time is of the essence and the evil one must consummate this dark ritual between 11 PM and Midnight on New Year’s Eve. The only person who seems to be able to put a stop to the prince of darkness and his satanic followers is an ex-cop in the form of Jericho (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who isn’t necessarily on the best terms with God after the loss of his wife and child.

Although it has all the ingredients of a ’90s action flick, the movie goes a lot darker, giving more depth to the characters and more substance to the story. Don’t worry though, there’s still plenty of Schwarznegger beating up baddies (including Miriam Margolyes… yep) and Byrne steals the show as the sinisterly, suave Lucifer.

In short, The Devil comes to earth and the only person that can stop him is Arnold Schwarzenegger, what more could you want!? Get involved.
