Jacked In Recommends ‘The Platform’ (2019)

The Platform AKA El hoyo follows the story of Goreng (Ivan Massagué) and his abysmal days spent in isolation. The setting of Goreng’s confinement is The Hole, a dystopic, vertical prison, made up of numerous levels, with two people to a floor/cell and not to mention… one hell of a dining experience!

Each day a platform (oh, see what they did there?!) is loaded up with a gorgeous banquet containing every inmate’s favourite cuisine, before slowly making its way down each level from top to bottom. The only problem is, the food is not topped up after each level and you only get two minutes to eat, which means, if your cell is nearer the bottom, you’re pretty screwed.

It’ll leave you questioning just what you would do in this kind of situation and despite it having its moments of brutality and gore, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia uses food in such a way that’ll make you never look at leftovers the same way again. All in all, it’s a fresh concept and thrilling tale of social status and greed which is delivered through the medium of horror and sci-fi, get involved.
