Bone Tomahawk takes place in the small western town of Bright Hope and locals are shuck up after an outlaw wanders into their bar. However, this is only the beginning.
Hot on the criminal’s trail is a tribe of very hostile cannibals who kidnap local rancher, Arthur’s (Patrick Wilson) wife. Despite his leg injury – and with the help of several individuals, including Sheriff Hunt (Kurt Russell) – Arthur embarks on a journey to rescue his wife from a place worse than hell.
Don’t be fooled, this is not your average horse riding, all guns blazing cowboy flick. It is dark and morbid in parts but that just adds to the movie’s strengths, giving a sense of realism as S. Craig Zahler’s brings horror to the western genre. Not only that but the slow pacing immerses you in the time period and certainly makes those brutal moments (quite the understatement) all the more jaw-dropping. And of course, Russell slides into the role of an old west Sheriff effortlessly once again, get involved.
