We meet Peter Banning (Robin Williams), a middle-aged, workaholic, lawyer who spends most of his days avoiding his wife and children. After visiting their old friend Granny Wendy (Maggie Smith), Peter’s children are suddenly abducted. However, this is no ordinary kidnapping and Wendy is no ordinary old friend. It seems as the years have progressed Banning has actually forgotten that he is none other than the infamous… Peter Pan.
Not only that but the kidnapper is in fact the nefarious Captain James Hook (Dustin Hoffman) trying to coax Peter into coming to back Neverland to save his children and have the battle of the century. Unfortunately, Peter is a little rusty around the edges but hopefully, with the help of Tinkerbell (Julia Roberts) and The Lost Boys, he will once again learn to fight, fly and crow!
The use of set pieces will immerse you in Neverland making you want to be a swashbuckling pirate or a bangarang, care-free Lost Boy. A brilliant cast that sees Williams as the perfect choice for the boy who never grew up, grown-up. And of course, Hoffman’s dastardly yet comical performance, which is still possibly the best rendition of Captain Hook to date.
All in all, Steven Spielberg does what he does best and gives audiences a family-friendly feature that doesn’t childproof the whole movie, knowing when to be raw, giving us this refreshing and alternative take on a classic tale. Get Involved.
