Jacked In Reviews ‘Area OL51’ (2023)

Area OL51 follows a freelance film crew after they get wind of Lucius (Mark Hindman-Smith) – a conspiracy theorist hoping to showcase his skills as an alien catcher. However, it seems he may be all mouth and no trousers.

The main strength of the mockumentary subgenre is the sense of realism with natural dialogue and actions. Although that is present in part, a lot of the time it feels scripted, which detaches you somewhat from the film’s intent. In saying that, kudos to the cinematography which does give that genuine feeling of authenticity for the film crew.

It’s a comedy with a very intriguing concept, for sure, just not the best execution.

There’s a lot of fun to be had following a cocksure buffoon that believes his own bull and there are a few comedic moments from time to time, unfortunately, they seem to get a bit lost in the foliage of the overall scenes. It’s a comedy with a very intriguing concept, for sure, just not the best execution.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
