Tim Burton’s sequel to the 1988 cult classic once again follows the Deetz’s, with Lydia (Winona Ryder) and her estranged daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega) front and centre. Making up the rest of the story is the scorned undead ex, Delores (Monica Bellucci), a deceased Charles Deetz (well, some of him), a crooked fiance to Lydia, Rory (Justin Theroux), a new lad on the scene who has a soft spot for Astrid, Jeremy (Arthur Conti) and paranormal detective, Wolf Jackson (Willem Dafoe). Oh, and Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton)… aaaand breath.

Jacked In Reviews ‘Hundreds of Beavers’ (2022)
As we open on a black & white prologue showing a mixture of live action and animation, we see the infamous Jean Kayak’s (Ryland Brickson Cole Tews) first encounter with a bunch of pesky beavers – who bring about the destruction of his Apple Jack distillery. And with that, his quest for survival over the next hour and forty-eight minutes begins in Mike Cheslik’s Hundreds of Beavers.

What seems like a lifetime ago, we open up on Logan (Hugh Jackman) where we left him last… Dead. Seven years after the events that transpired in Logan (2017), The Merc with the Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) is digging up the grave of our favourite X-Men member in a bid to ignite the adventure of Shawn Levy’s (Free Guy, The Adam Project) Deadpool & Wolverine.

If you go into the movie with no preconceptions, what initially appears to be a chapter set up eventually reveals that Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest feature is in fact a triptych tale comprised of several short stories connected by an individual known as R.M.F (Yorgos Stefanakos). And with that the penny drops regarding the three Kinds of Kindness title format on the movie’s promotions.

Thea Sharrock’s Wicked Little Letters, a movie that is British from head to toe, so what better place to experience it, than in the establishment that champions the sub-genre… Tyneside Cinema.
Showcasing actual events, “this story that is more real than you think”. Set in 1920s Sussex, in the town of Littlehampton, we follow the well-to-do Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and her authoritarian father, Edward Swan (Timothy Spall). And it seems Edith has been receiving some abusive letters as of late.

As we settle into our red velvet seats at Tyneside Cinema, it becomes clear that their gorgeously old-fashioned, classic screen is the perfect vessel to experience this Victorian masterpiece. Based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name (well, partly, the full title is, in fact, Poor Things: Episodes From The Early Life Of Archibald McCandless M.D., Scottish Public Health Officer – a very apt title for the beautifully bizarre world in which this story lives), partnering once again, we have Acadamy Award Nominee and BAFTA-winning screenwriter, Tony McNamara (The Favourite & The Great) and Academy Award-winning filmmaker, Yorgos Lanthimos’ (The Lobster, Killing of the Sacred Deer & The Favourite) adaptation.

Academy Award-winning, Emerald Fennell brings us her much-anticipated follow-up to Promising Young Woman. The darkly comedic, stylistic, satirical thriller, surrounding class and depravity (quite the understatement), Saltburn.

We recently paid a visit to Tyneside Cinema’s Gallery screen. The intimate space and alternative setting provided a very apt experience for Kristoffer Borgli’s dark comedy, Dream Scenario.
We follow Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage), an average Joe (in every sense of the word) who all of sudden, inexplicably starts turning up in people’s dreams. Having no bearing on the content of the dreams themselves (or the outcome for that matter), Paul simply shows up as an unintrusive voyeur (hilariously not helping, even if the dreamer is in distress or danger).
